Observation Experience

Thank you for your interest in learning more about healthcare careers.  In an observation experience, you will be observing (shadowing) someone, whose job you may be interested in pursuing.  The professional will take you through his/her usual responsibilities and duties, allowing you to observe him/her at work.  You will not perform any hands-on duties during this experience.  You must be at least of high school age to qualify for such an experience. 

Please complete the request form to identify your observation interests.  Note: KershawHealth does not allow observation experiences in the following departments: Emergency Room, EMS ambulances, Labor & Delivery, Infant Nursery, and Operating Room.  Your request will be responded to within 7 days.  We must receive your request at least 14 days prior to the date you would like to observe.

Once your request is approved, you will be required to complete the appropriate prerequisites listed below. 

Before coming to KershawHealth for your observation experience, please review the dress code requirements here.  If a student arrives for a learning experience, and he/she is not dressed within the standards of the dress code, he/she will be sent home to change.

If you would like to observe for less than 16 hours, you will be required to complete the following prerequisites:

If you would like to observe for 16 or more hours, you will be required to complete the following prerequisites:

  • Parental Release – if you are under 18 years old click here;
  • Background check – if you are 18 years old or older click here;
  • Immunization paperwork – you will need to provide proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), Chickenpox, Hepatitis B, Tetanus (within the last 10 years), and a PPD or Tuberculosis skin test within the last 12 months click here for immunization requirements.
  • Online orientation - you must complete online orientation before beginning your observation experience; after submitting your request and receiving confirmation, you will be set up in the KershawHealth online learning program; for instructions on how to access the program (after being set-up), click here.
