There's hospice, and then there's KershawHealth Hospice.
When someone you know is facing a terminal illness, you have lots of questions and concerns. Why not get the answers from a name you know and trust? Why not KershawHealth?
We're the only active not-for-profit hospice provider in Kershaw County, and that means we believe hospice is about a mission of caring, not about numbers or income. Choose KershawHealth, and you'll get care that's backed by all the resources of our healthcare system, including the county's only inpatient hospice care. Seamless transitions between inpatient, outpatient, home health, and hospice care. And you'll get customized care from people who live, work and play right here in our community - staff with decades of dedicated hospice experience. We think all this is important.
A Different Kind of Care
We believe a terminal illness is best faced one day at a time.
A day to spend with loved ones. To make memories. To enjoy an afternoon in the sun or a phone call from your grandchild. A day to think about life, and not illness. If you're facing a life-limiting illness, there's no better way to deal with whatever time is left. At KershawHealth Hospice, we understand, and we can help.
Hospice is a unique kind of care that gives patients and their families new choices for care during the last stages of life. The focus of hospice care is to dispel the fear of pain and indignity and restore a sense of hope and control. Our goal is to keep your loved one at home - surrounded by the things and people they cherish.
We gather together a network of doctors, nurses, social workers, home care aides, pharmacists, chaplains and volunteers to help you and your family. We can provide nursing care, pain management, education, and compassionate emotional support. Our team involves our patients in treatment decisions and demonstrates the utmost respect for personal values, beliefs and lifestyles.
Although most hospice care is provided at home, we are also able to provide care in a nursing home or other contractual facility with a nurse on call 24 hours a day. Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances cover hospice care, durable medical equipment, and medications related to the patient’s comfort.
Patient and Family
Our hospice staff will work closely with the patient's physician and family members to create an integrated plan of care which may include any of the following:
- Registered nurse on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Skilled nursing care.
- Home health aide service.
- Medical social service.
- Support by specially trained hospice volunteers.
- Spiritual support.
- Occupational, physical, speech and other therapies.
We believe in the power of community. That's why our staff live, work, and play right here. And it's why, if you have a problem or a concern, you'll have someone local to talk to. Because we believe local matters.
The death of a loved one is one of the greatest losses any of us experience. At KershawHealth Hospice, we recognize that grief is a normal response to this loss. Bereavement services are typically provided for up to one year by professional staff and volunteers. Services include one-to-one counseling, support groups and educational literature. We also sponsor a grief support group that meets on a regular basis.
Hospice volunteers are specially trained, caring people who bring understanding, support and special skills to help patients and their families. Some of the services provided by volunteers include:
• Companionship for the patient and family.
• Errands for patient or family.
• Activities based on special patient needs and individual volunteer talents.

Payment for Hospice Care
Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances cover hospice care, durable medical equipment and medications related to a patient’s comfort. KershawHealth Hospice accepts patients without regard to insurance status or ability to pay. We will be glad to discuss payment options with you.
