People volunteer with us for many reasons.
Some want to keep their social and business skills updated or add community service to their resume. Many see their service as an opportunity to stay in touch with family, friends, and neighbors. Others see their work at KershawHealth as a way to return some of the good fortune they have enjoyed in their lives. Whatever the reason, volunteering with us is a meaningful way to contribute to the community.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. We have volunteers who are at-home mothers, college students, and retired seniors. But they are all united in their commitment to helping others and giving back to their community.
Volunteer service at KershawHealth requires little knowledge of technology. The Volunteer Department is generally able to find a suitable position for those who want to contribute their time and talents. There are opportunities to volunteer in both clinical and non-clinical areas, depending on a volunteer's particular interest and comfort level. Volunteer opportunities typically include working in such areas as the front desk, outpatient surgery, transportation, and the gift shop.
Some of our volunteers choose to work with our Hospice program, to provide support and assistance for those facing a terminal illness. For more information about Hospice volunteers, click here.
KershawHealth also has a summer teen volunteer program for students. Applications for teen volunteers are available in April or May each year. The summer teen volunteer program provides students with a better perspective about healthcare careers, helps build their resume, and allows them to give back to the community through their service. Volunteer Commitment and Scheduling
Volunteers typically commit four hours a week. However, there is considerable flexibility in accommodating your volunteer time to fit into your own pesonal schedule.
Volunteers are honored each year at an annual awards ceremony with service pins and bars designating their tenure with the KershawHealth volunteer team. At this event, we honor all volunteers including special volunteers who receive certificates of distinguished service. Our volunteer newsletter, The Volunteer Voice, (published monthly) also allows us to recognize volunteers through the Volunteer Spotlight.
